Ohanian/Hume Home
This unique private residence near Hopland, CA was designed by well-known straw bale architect Bob Theis and built by Hawkes Construction of Ukiah. We applied approximately 12,000 square feet of thick walled earthen plasters to the exterior and interior of the building. The exterior plasters are rustic to compliment the formality of the second-story board and batten construction. The interior surfaces were refined with thin clay veneer plasters and paints in light gold with white ceilings. The interior spaces are reflective of the light straw grasses in the landscape. The two bathrooms were finished with a Tadalakt lime plaster finish specified for moist environments. Traditionally a vernacular finish from Morocco, these wall gleam like jewels.
