Tactile partnered with Sparx Hockey to shape the next generation of skate sharpening through both industrial design and high-impact visual storytelling for the Sparx BEAM. Sparx Hockey set out to evolve its sharpening ecosystem with a next-generation sharpener and Sparx BEAM, a first-of-its-kind Blade Edge Accuracy Measurement device that uses laser technology to measure blade edges with extreme precision. Tactile collaborated with Sparx to support this evolution end-to-end, from product form and user experience to cinematic visualization that brings the technology to life for players, coaches, and skate techs. Tactile’s industrial design team worked alongside Sparx to refine the physical experience of the next-gen sharpener and BEAM, aligning the form language, interface details, and ergonomics with Sparx’s high-performance, pro-ready brand. The result is a cohesive sharpening ecosystem in which the handheld BEAM and the sharpener feel like a unified toolset, reinforcing Sparx’s reputation for accuracy and ease of use at every touchpoint. Through TactileFX, Tactile extended the collaboration into advanced visualization, creating hyper-real renderings and animation that reveal how Sparx BEAM’s laser-based measurement technology fits into the broader sharpening workflow. These visuals help Sparx clearly communicate the value of BEAM—turning complex alignment and measurement capabilities into an intuitive, engaging story for both elite and everyday skaters.
